Play On Your Porch Day is almost here! This event takes place on the last Saturday of August which is on Sunday, August 27th this year. I’ll be busy during the afternoon so I made this an evening jam starting at 7 pm Saskatoon time. Once again, I’ll have my patio open for those who would like to play in person. Please RSVP if you plan to come in person just in case I have to cancel due to the weather.  As usual, we’ll also be online for those who can’t come in person.

Since I’m getting this email out late (sorry!), I thought we could use the music packages from our last two jams again. There’s a lot of fun music in there and we didn’t get through all of either pack so let’s try it again.

Our planned jam for Sunday, July 10th is moved to Wednesday, July 13th. This Sunday happens to be a Ukulele Festival of Hawaii event so we’re moving our jam to accommodate those who want to sit in on the festival’s many workshops. More details about Wednesday’s jam are coming soon.

Our next jam will be on Friday, July 1st at 11 am where we will be celebrating all the amazing music coming out of this country. This jam will be on Zoom with an option to join me on my patio for some in-person playing. Please email me if you are interested in coming in person.

We had a lot of great music last year and quite a bit of it is in our Keep Calm & Uke On songbook so feel free to choose one of those to lead or send in a new song. Just make sure to get PDFs to me by Thursday morning as I will be posting the music package on our website that evening.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our Experimental Jam last week. It was a lot of fun trying a new platform and since we still have a free trial, I thought we can try it again for our next jam on Sunday, June 19th at 3 pm Saskatoon time.

I’ll also have my patio open for in-person playing but I’m not sure if the weather will cooperate. Please email me if you would like to join me in-person or if you have any questions.

Our Experimental Jam will be on this Wednesday, June 8th at 7 pm Saskatoon time. What do I mean by “experimental”? For the summer, I thought it would be fun to throw in the odd jam during the week, especially since people get pretty busy during weekends this might be an opportunity to get more participation. People indicated on the survey that Wednesdays and Thursdays were the next best time so, let’s try it!

But we’re also going to try another experiment for this jam. Instead of Zoom, I want to try a new platform called Syncspace. Not only does it look neat (I love the graphic front door to enter) but in theory, we should be able to play together with almost no lag time. Musicians have been using Syncspace to perform in real-time as well as using it for teaching in real-time so I thought it might be something worth trying. Even if only a few players at a time play together and lead a song, that would be a huge difference in our jams.
